This note was featured in Bank Note Reporter May 2002. The actual
price of the note was not disclosed because the entire transaction was
for two notes. The second note is also a very interesting
specimen.
It was a Type 2 1861 $500 serial #583. It is interesting to note
that a date was placed after Clitherall's signature. Dates are
found
next to "C.T. Jones" signatures and this indicates the actual
date
he signed as well as the interest date . Thian shows that serial
number #577 - #607 have the date of July 23, 1861. Clitherall
resigned
as Register on July 16th, 1861. However, he signed this note on "July
27", or eleven days after officially
resigning.
I'll leave it up to the historians to decide the significance of this
'Dated
Clitherall Signature' but one thing is certain, this is an extremely
interesting
discovery note and may be One of a Kind!
The
grade of this T-2 specimen is XF/AU.
