Col Crutch Williams CSA
The Texans are fond of giving titles, hence they have prefixed to my name the title of colonel; it is a title of courtesy, but I should much prefer the simple mister.
Clarence C Thayer, Agent Confederate Treasury Department, April 2, 1864.

CSA 730 Interest Hundreds
T39  B293  #11847  Ab  Tall A variety  June 20, 1862  Light paper.  Black Frame line is complete around the note, just barely close top left.  There are three Augusta IP stamps on back - 1863, 1864 & 1865.  There is a very small natural body hole to left of the Milk Maid's foot and a tiny edge nick.  Still a Very Choice AU $160.00    Front    Back
T39  B290  #20333  Af. July 10th, Dorsey/Williams, IP Raliegh  63, 64, 65  F/VF  $95.00   front  back
T39  B.....   #22052  Ab  August 1, 1862  Snead/Watts  ISSUED SEPT. 12,1862 on back.  VF(-)  $195.00  obv  rev
T39  B294  #26640  Ac  July 25, 1862.  Signatures of W.T. Snead, for register and A.S. Watts, for treasurer.  Very small initials manuscript on left front:  LLC.  Unknown 1863 IP stamp (probably from Wilmington NC) also with Richmond 1864 IP.  I didn't recall seeing an interst hundred with initials on the front prior to this one and I have since seen another one that was the subject of discussion on the internet.  Very Choice AU/CU   $170.00   obv    rev
T39  B290  #28026  Ab  August 4, 1862.  E.H. Smith, for register and T.C. Gale, for treasurer.  This is from the same run as the last note only 14 sheets later.  Besides the very scarce signature combination there is also an imprint at right edge of the lithographer who plated this note.  About half of the name Emiel Thieme is visible.  There is a blue roundel of a T. Sanford Depositary Issue stamp on the back dated 5 NOV '62 partial manuscript.  There are no interest paid stamps which is unusual.  Great color and contrast with the slighest amount of handling!   Choice AU  $180.00   obv    rev

T40  B29830262  August 9, 1862  Ac  First Day of Issue for T40.  W.T. Snead and A.S. Watts.  Macon (Ga) 1863 and Charleston (SC) 1965 Interest Paid Stamps on back.  This note has Full Frame Line although close in couple places.  What is unusual and RARE about this note is that it has been Hammer Cut Cancelled.  VG/F  $225.00   obv    rev
T40  B300  #31775  August 13, 1862  Ah  Gilman/Gray  (probable) TM IP 1864 with 5/4  Issued Houston Tex Jany 19th/63.  Duplicate from my collection.  Light ink smear to endorsement, Clean, no problems, VF(-)  $405.00  obv  rev

My Opinion on the So-Called HAVANA counterfeits:
I believe these notes to be genuine.  Most known examples have six digit serial numbers and they are all D plate. I've actually seen a few very high 5 digit serial numbers.  I believe they were the last notes to be printed by the CS Treasury Dept. after the federal raid on Columbia in February 1865.  The Treasury Note Bureau set up temporary shop in Anderson S.C. and printed notes there until May 1, 1865.  May 2nd Anderson was raided and the print shop was destroyed.
